Away From the Homestead

Pearl Adams, a regal and dignified woman, lives with her husband Peter contently in Missouri. She goes day by day by doing her chores or practicing weaving blankets and dancing. A traditional home wife. One day, Peter comes home unexpectedly, with a wagon and oxen trailing behind him, wishing to find a future filled with gold in California. Without Pearl’s input, her and Peter embark on an unexpected and troublous expedition to California.

The first couple of miles was a breeze, but the later parts of the expedition prove to be unrelenting. Tragedy strikes, and it leaves you unprepared, on your own to face the world with no remembrance of how to return to the comfort of your homestead. You meet with a runaway slave searching to attain freedom, and the adventure not only is a feat of surviving, but a development of self-confidence and empathy for others.
